THE DEMENTED MUSIC BLOG!

UNDER THE SMOGBERRY TREES!

The demented music blog is a hats off to the Dr. Demento show! I first came across this radio show one stormy rainy icey stormy snowy gazillion degrees below zero Cold weather night in the now defunct Wales hall on the south campus of Stephens college in college town Columbia Missouri, home of the first streakers, dancing in the street and Billy Joel the piano man who first played at the tiger bar a gay bar in columbia missouri in freshman year. This was what the scene was like in my freshman year. With a rush of home sickness after listening to California dreaming by the mamas and the papas on the radio. At least it was not the California keeps calling you home song. Thank god for Dr. Demento he lifted me right out of my blue funk that I was in. Or so I thought! Ironically I turned on the radiand i tuned in to a song that my mom would sing to me when I was 5 years old.. A totally demented song called “a gay caballero” sung by Frank Crumit in 1928. Ironically this made me even more homesick than ever! Native Californian that I am I thought I would grow up faster thousands of miles from home blame it my adventurous spirit on my Sagittarius rising! When I graduated and came back home to California deciding to take organic chemistry and physics. I found myself at SMC where my fellow lab partners happened to be dementids and dementites like me! We would turn on while tuning on to kmet is the place to be for the music on your radio. A little bit of heaven 94.7 kmet Tweedledee. To the Dr. Demento show on Sunday nights. we would venture to Roxanne Shepherds home in Beverly Hills for veal marsala and salad wine and zabaglioni and then it would be chemistry final study time complete with Dr. Demento on Sunday night radio. We all would be balancing equations and PV=nrting as well as as well as getting high from Roxanne’s home grown mixed in with her tomato plants in the backyard! Those tomatoes grew high man oh man but they weren’t the only thing that was high! Anyway enough about me.

Dr. Demento aka Barret Barry Eugene Hansen radio announcer and broadcaster played the most bawdy whimsical nostalgic outrageous music you could ever know! Along with whimsical Will and Jungle Judy they would play the “stacks and stacks of laughing whacks.” Today on the dark web there is a continuation in these times of uncertainty to different websites to lift you out of your dreary and mundane world! They are http://www.drdemento.com and the http://madmusic.com websites. Dr. Demento started in 1970 and is still going strong albeit on the dark web in 2020. Perhaps I can turn on a whole new generation to the whimsical sounds of Dr.Demento under the Smogberry trees of Los Angeles! The playlists of the Dr. Demento show. can be procured at this website: http://www.dmdb.org/playlists/. On the Dr. Demento show they had the top 10, The funny five and number one. What was so cool about the number one song is they played a jingle to announce it before they played it! that was what made the Dr. Demento show so much fun! When it was free on a little bit of heaven 94.7 kmet tweedle dee!
